‘Hosa Manushya’ is a monthly magazine in Kannada dedicated to Socialist thoughts. It is being published from Shivamogga, a district place in Karnataka. ‘Hosa Manushya’ derives its title from the quest of Lohia for a new (socialist) civilisation and a new man. In fact the literal meaning of ‘Hosa Manushya’ is New Man. The title of the magazine is also inspired by the title ‘Mankind’, a magazine founded by Dr. Lohia in fifties. ‘Hosa Manushya’ is also the continuation of Kannada socialist monthly ‘Manava’ which was in circulation for a few years in late sixties‘Hosa Manushya’ derives its title from the quest of Lohia for a new (socialist) civilisation and a new man. Now ‘Hosa Manushya’ is in its fifth of year uninterrupted publication.

‘Hosa Manuhya’ is a 20 page(size:12” X 8”) black and white magazine and its main features are profiles of Socialist leaders, serialization of the life of late Prof. B.Krishnappa, father of Dalit movement in Karnataka, a book review column and ‘Samakaleena’ pages a bunch of articles and opinions on contemporary topics. Of course magazine has a page of an editorial note and also a page on literary and cultural topics.

The magazine publishes two special issues, one the annual issue in August and another a woman issue in March.

Editor of ‘Hosa Manushya’ is D.S. Nagabhushana. He is a retired Station Director of All India Radio. He writes literary criticism in kannada and has more than twenty books of Socialist thoughts (including biographies of Lohia and JP) and literary criticism to his credit. He is also the founder President of Lohia Janmashatbdhi Trust (Regd.) and it is conducting Socialist workshops annually for the younger generation on different topics since last six years. The trust also conducts cultural workshops in colleges for college students.
