‘Hosa Manushya’ the Socialist monthly in Kannada has entered its 8th year of publication with its February 2019 issue. The monthly is being published from Shivamogga, a district town in Central Karnataka. Its editor is D.S. Nagabhushana, a retired Station Director of All India Radio and a well known Socialist thinker and a literary critic.
‘Hosa Manushya’ means ‘The New man’ and this title is inspired by Dr. Ramamanohar Lohia’s thoughts on the (future) man of new (socialist) civilization he enunciated in his writings. It also gets inspiration from the Gandhian principles of ahimsa, satyagrha and swaraj. The magazine is of 20 black and white pages with pictures and illustrations. The magazine consists of an editorial, articles of political analysis, commentaries on current affairs-including those on environment and development- of state, national and international importance, columns of poetry, fiction or a literary essay, cultural notes by the editor, a page of extracts from religions which will be of pure spiritual nature and book reviews.
‘Hosa Manushya’ publishes a yearly special issue in August and a Women’s special issue in March every year. The magazine has about a thousand subscribers and it runs on their yearly subscription of Rs. 200/-
